Send it to the right customers, not to a list you exported.

Email and text campaigns, and follow-up sequences, built on the customers already in MecanoPro. Preview who gets what, then let it send itself. It is included with Pro and Elite.

Message Hi Marc, it's been a while since your last visit. Book your winter tire changeover: example.ca/book Reply STOP to unsubscribe.

Left out: 9 unsubscribed, 3 with no mobile number. 202 will get it.

Scheduled. The audience is checked again when it starts.

A campaign as it looks before sending, previewed as one customer. The numbers are an example.

From a list of customers to a result

Five stops, and what the software does at each.

  1. Audience

Pick who gets it from your own records

A segment is a set of conditions on the customers and leads already in MecanoPro. It is worked out again each time you count it, preview it or send, so it is never a stale export.

    • Filter on lead status, source and who it is assigned to, the client, the city, when you last communicated with them and the last marketing message they got. From your invoices, add last invoice, number of invoices, total invoiced and what they bought.
    • Match all of your conditions or any of them, and see the count and a preview of who is in before you send.
    • Rather have a fixed group? Make a list by hand, import one from a CSV file (people are matched by email, so nobody is added twice) or copy a segment into a list.
    • A segment keeps a history of who entered and who left it, day by day.
  2. Message

Write it once, as an email or a text

An email can be written in a rich text editor or built from blocks: headings, text, images, buttons, dividers and columns. A text is plain, with a character counter.

    • Merge a customer's first name, full name, company or city, or your own company name, into the subject and the body.
    • Preview it as a particular customer: the message as merged, which fields came out empty, and whether that person would actually receive it.
    • Save it as a template. A test email, marked [TEST], goes to you before anyone else.
  3. Send

Send it now, or when your customers will read it

Send straight away or pick a date and time. A scheduled campaign works out its audience when it starts, not when you scheduled it.

    • Email goes out signed as your own domain once its DNS records are verified. Until then it is held, not lost, and it leaves when the records pass.
    • Set an hourly and a daily limit. A large send is paced rather than instant, and a campaign waiting on a limit says so.
    • Cancel a campaign before or while it sends. Messages already handed to the mail server still go.
  4. Follow-up

Keep following up without having to remember

A sequence is a run of emails and texts spaced in days and hours. Enrol a segment or a list and it runs on its own from there.

    • Each step waits after the one before it, from immediately to days and hours later.
    • A step can branch on whether the person opened or clicked the message before it.
    • Someone leaves the sequence on the conditions you choose: they reply, click, opt out, become a client or are invoiced.
    • You enrol people, from a segment or a list. Each person can be enrolled in a given sequence once, and you can stop anyone by hand.
    • After a campaign has finished, draft a follow-up to everyone who did not open it, did not click, or did.
  5. Results

    See what happened

Every campaign shows how many were sent, opened and clicked, what failed, why anyone was skipped, and a table of the links people followed.

    • Clicks are the number to trust. Mail apps that load images in advance, Apple Mail above all, inflate opens, so treat opens as a guide.
    • Texts are not tracked. There is no pixel in a text message, and rewriting its link would get it filtered.
    • An analytics page, for administrators, compares campaigns, links, and the days and hours you sent. Rates are ranked only once a campaign has 25 sends.
    • Try two subject lines on part of an email campaign, 10 to 50 percent of it. The winner goes to the rest. If the sample is too small to call, subject A goes out.

The rules it keeps

Marketing only works for as long as customers can say stop and have it mean something.

  • Stopping is one click

Every email carries an unsubscribe link and your mailing address, and the one-click header mail apps look for. It cannot be switched off. Messages about the customer's own account, like invoices and appointments, still reach them.

  • A text says how to stop

Every text ends with "Reply STOP to unsubscribe.", in English or in French.

  • An opt-out holds

It is honoured at send time, per channel. It stops the messages still waiting on that channel and ends the person's sequences. Only an administrator can bring someone back, and the opt-out record stays.

  • Addresses that do not work are set aside

A mailbox that does not exist is blocked at once. Three temporary failures within 30 days block it too. Correct the address on the contact and the block lifts by itself.

  • You can see who was left out

Anyone skipped is listed with the reason: unsubscribed, no email address, no mobile number, address not working, or already sent.

What stays with you

A few things no marketing tool can do for you, said plainly so you know before you start.

  • Permission to message each customer is yours to have. MecanoPro adds the unsubscribe link and honours opt-outs, but it does not record consent, so keep your own.
  • Your mailing address goes in the settings, and the DNS records for your sending domain are published by whoever looks after your domain. Email waits until they verify.
  • One message is one language. Write a campaign for English customers and another for French ones, and split them with lists. Only the footer follows the customer's language.
  • Texts need a connected SMS number, and STOP replies are handled by the SMS provider on that number.
  • A CSV import suits a few hundred rows at a time. It creates a lead or a client contact for any email it does not already know.
